Student Support

We are in your corner — from day one to graduation and beyond

Exceptional training demands more than great kitchens and talented trainers. It demands that every student — regardless of where they are from, what they are carrying, or where they are in their studies — has real, accessible support behind them. At The Future Culinary Academy, student support is not a last resort. It is a standing offer. You do not need to be in crisis to reach out. You do not need to have exhausted every other option. You just need to pick up the phone or send an email, and someone will be there.

Academic Support

Whether you are finding a particular unit challenging, preparing for an upcoming assessment, or simply want to make sure you are on track, our academic support services are available to every student throughout your enrollment.

One-on-one sessions with your trainer or assessor outside of scheduled class time — ask at any point, not just when things go wrong

04

Assessment prep

Additional preparation support in the lead-up to assessments, including practice opportunities and feedback before the formal submission

Personal Wellbeing

Studying is demanding. Studying in a new city — or a new country — can be more demanding still. Whatever is happening outside the kitchen, our Student Services team is here to help you navigate it.

We provide:

Confidencial support

Private conversations with Student Services about anything affecting your studies, wellbeing, or daily life.

Counselling referrals

Access to professional counselling services, including free and low-cost support options.

Orientation support

Support for new students adjusting to life at TheFCA, settling into Melbourne, and feeling confident from day one.

Practical guidance

Help with accommodation concerns, financial stress, legal questions, and health-related matters.

Critical incident support

If something serious happens to you or someone close to you, we help you navigate the next steps and protect your studies while you deal with it.

You do not need to have a formal problem to speak to us. If something feels off — if you are not sleeping, if you are feeling isolated, if the pressure is building — that is enough of a reason to get in touch. The earlier we know, the more we can do.

Everything you share with Student Services is treated with confidentiality and respect.

Course Progress Support

The Future Culinary Academy monitors the progress of every student throughout their program. This is not about catching people out — it is about catching people early, before a small problem becomes a big one.

If your progress falls below the required standard, a member of our Student Services team will reach out to you directly. The conversation is supportive, not punitive. Together, we will look at what is going on, what might be getting in the way, and what we can do to help you get back on track.

This might result in:

  • Additional Academic Support — Extra academic help or tutoring tailored to your needs.
  • Revised Study Plan — Adjusted workload or a revised study plan to support your progress
  • Personal Support Referral — Referral to counselling or other personal support services.
  • Formal Intervention Strategy — A written plan outlining agreed steps and support measures

Your voice is central to this process.

Nothing is imposed without a conversation first.

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Before any report is made:

  • You will always be informed in writing.
  • You can access our complaints and appeals process first.
  • We do not report lightly — our first instinct is always to support.

Course progress and attendance are visa conditions.

If attendance or progress falls below the required level and support measures are not working, we are required by law to notify the Department of Home Affairs through PRISMS.

DO NOT WAIT TO BE CONTACTED

If you are struggling, reach out to Student Services as early as possible.

The sooner we know, the more options we have.

Disability and Accessibility

Five chefs gathered around a table reviewing menus and discussing food plans in a bright kitchen.

The Future Culinary Academy is committed to an inclusive learning environment that genuinely accommodates the diversity of our student community. We comply with the Disability Standards for Education 2005 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 — but more than compliance, we are committed to making sure every student has a real and equitable opportunity to succeed.

If you have a disability, chronic health condition, mental health condition, or learning difficulty that may affect your participation in training or assessment, we encourage you to speak with us. Disclosure is voluntary, but it enables us to put the right supports in place from the beginning.

Reasonable adjustments in a culinary context may include:

  • Modified workstation setup or kitchen arrangements
  • Alternative assessment formats where the standard format creates a barrier
  • Additional time for written or theory-based assessments
  • Access to assistive technology or materials in alternative formats
  • A support person or carer accompanying you on campus
  • Adjusted scheduling where medically necessary

Ready to make Melbourne home?

What reasonable adjustments will never do is lower the standard of assessment. You will be assessed against the same national competency standards as every other student — adjustments simply ensure that a barrier does not prevent you from demonstrating what you are genuinely capable of.

To discuss your needs, contact Student Services at any point — before enrolment, at orientation, or at any time during your studies.

Financial Support and Hardship

Money stress is one of the most common — and least talked about — reasons students disengage from their studies. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please reach out before they affect your attendance or progress.

FLEXIBLE PAYMENT PLANS

Discussing your payment schedule and whether a revised payment plan is possible

GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Providing information about available financial assistance, including VET Student Loans for eligible domestic students.

FINANCIAL COUNSELLING REFERRALS

Connecting you with external financial counselling services, including free support options available in Melbourne.

EMERGENCY WELFARE SUPPORT

Helping you access emergency food, accommodation, and welfare support if your situation is urgent.

Financial hardship does not disqualify you from studying at TheFCA. It is a circumstance, not a character failing. Speak to Student Services, and we will work through your options with you.

Mental Health and Crisis Support

The culinary industry is demanding — and we know that the pressure can be felt long before graduation. We take the mental health and wellbeing of our students seriously, and we want you to know that support is available at every stage.

On campus, Student Services can provide a confidential conversation and referral to professional support. Beyond the Academy, the following free services are available to you at any time:
