Before you arrive in Melbourne

The weeks before you land set the tone for your entire experience. Work through this checklist to arrive confident, prepared, and ready to focus on what matters — your learning journey.

01

Confirm your visa and CoE

Ensure your student visa (subclass 500) has been granted and your Confirmation of Enrolment from TheFCA is in order before booking travel.

02

Carry your documents in your hand luggage

Keep your most important documents in your carry-on, not your checked bags. You'll need your passport (valid for at least 6 months from your travel date), a printed copy of your student visa.

03

Pack medications and prescriptions

Bring enough of any regular medication to last until you can see a doctor in Melbourne. Keep prescriptions with you in your carry-on and check whether your medication is permitted into Australia on the Australian Border Force website before you travel.

04

Secure your OSHC

Purchase Overseas Student Health Cover before departure. Your policy must be active from your date of arrival in Australia.

05

Arrange accommodation

Book your accommodation for the first few weeks before flying. You can secure a longer-term arrangement after you arrive and have a chance to explore neighborhoods.

06

Create your USI

Set up your Unique Student Identifier at usi.gov.au before orientation. TheFCA needs this to issue your qualification.

07

Open an Australian bank account

Some Australian banks allow you to open an account before arriving. This makes it much easier to receive your first pay and manage your expenses immediately.

08

Buy an Australian SIM card on arrival

Pick up a local SIM card at the airport as soon as you land. This lets you get online immediately, contact your family to let them know you arrived safely, and start using maps and transport apps right away. Make sure your phone is unlocked before you travel.

09

Get your Myki card

Pick up or top up a Myki card at the airport on arrival. It works on all trains, trams, and buses across Melbourne’s transport network.

10

Attend TheFCA orientation

Orientation is mandatory. You’ll meet your trainers, tour the facilities, and get everything you need to start confidently.
